Leading a healthy lifestyle, eating right and exercising, is SO IMPORTANT, but seems to come at the bottom of the list of priorities in so many peoples lives. Simply go out in public and take a quick look around and you’ll see what I’m talking about. We’ve heard all the stories and reports in the media about the “new epidemic” of obesity in America. I think it’s about time that moms (and dads) start taking the responsibility of teaching their children and modeling for them what it means to be healthy. By this I mean eating right and exercising on a regular basis. It all starts at home and being a stay-at-home mom, i’ve decided to put together a list of the things that our family does when it comes to cooking and eating. This list isn’t exhaustive, but something I threw together in about 10 minutes to give a few examples.
Quick tips for healthier cooking/eating: Read the rest of this entry »
Sitting in the waiting room at Women First, I have to share my excitement over the news that our sweet little Macy Jane will be arriving via c-section on Tuesday, May 29th. Horray! We are all so excited to meet our little “May May” and what a perfect birthday gift for my dad whose birthday is just a few days after her debut. Mark your calendar and come share in the joy of another baby girl!
Okay, we all receive a million magazine offers and the options are endless! I’ve decided to post my very favorite ones with a link to their page.
- FamilyFun – The ultimate guide to creating fun in your home! www.familyfun.com
- Wonder Time – Celebrating you child’s love of learning! www.wondertime.com
- Runners World – The best running magazine out there! www.runnersworld.com
- Martha Stewart – Okay, I admit, I’m a huge Martha fan! www.marthastewart.com
I’ll update my listing as I come across more that I think are must haves. We look forward to getting them each month. Dustin even likes to read the Family Fun magazine!
Makenzie, our little musician, has created her own new song for when she wants something. I’ve decided to write down the lyrics for all to enjoy.
Oh me my me my me me me me my me my me my me my me my my me me me my me.
(pause)
Pees (Her version of please accompanied with the sign for please)
It’s a popular song here at the Schadt house, sung many many times during the day. It is pretty funny because she says it all so fast and goes on and on and on and finally ends with a sweet little please and a look of desperate need in her eye.
I love it!
After a recent discussion with a group of ladies, I have given much thought on whether we are to find contentment or joy in the role of being a wife, a mom and a foundation builder. I think maybe to simply stop at “finding contentment” in these roles is stopping short of what God desires for my life. I find no greater joy than being the wife, mom and the foundation builder in my home. Stopping at contentment would mean merely getting the job done, finding joy is loving every bit of it along the way.
Every morning I can’t wait to see Makenzie’s precious face, well what we can see of it with all her hair hanging in her eyes. I can’t wait to start of pot of coffee and try to have breakfast for Dustin and Makenzie made. I can’t wait to look at our schedule to see what “adventure” we have planned wether to go to the store or the zoo or the park or to Nana’s or Bop’s house for a visit. I can’t wait for Dustin to get home from work, to come home to a clean house and dinner on the table. For us as a family to sit and eat, as crazy as it may be sometimes with food flying everywhere. Going to the gym together as a family, trying to both work out while watching Makenzie run all over the place. Or Makenzie’s bath time, to watch her play in the tub and draw with her bath crayons on the wall. Although I love here dearly, I can’t wait until she is ready for bed, jammies on, all cute and cuddly and Dustin and I putting her down saying prayers with her and baby and Amen and the dog and did I mention blankie. Then having that time with Dustin to just sit and relax, eating a snack (ususally a tasty cake I made) while watching Lost or House.
Am I not selling God, my family and myself short if I only find contentment and not joy in doing that which God has called me to do each day? Although there are those crazy days, I find no greater joy then the amazing task that God has laid before me to be Dustin’s wife and Makenzie and Macy’s mommy and to help build a foundation on Christ in our home.
