I don’t get a chance very often to just sit down and read blog posts – but was so encouraged (as usual) when I took a few minutes tonight to read girltalk. If you have a few minutes, there are some great posts recently on being a mom and homemaker.
I love how God’s Word is continually changing and molding me to be a better wife and mom. In the busy mix of being a stay at home mom, it is very easy to get tired of picking up toys, endless laundry, fixing a meal, just to clean up and start another one a few hours later, day in and day out. It can quickly cause me to loose perspective and become focused on myself and how “tired” I am.
As I’ve been doing my quiet time this week, God has continued to show me through His Word that what I do is not about me. 1 Peter 4:9-11 has truly given me great perspective and a change of heart this week. It says,
“Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”
What a great reminder that I serve my family because it pleases the Lord. It is not about me, but all about Him – loving the fact that I have an amazing family to serve and influence as I take care of everyone and our home. I can take great comfort and even feel encouraged and excited to serve my family, knowing that every time I do another load of laundry, make another meal or vacuum the floor (for the third time that day) that I am honoring and praising Jesus with my actions. With the right perspective, I truly enjoy serving my family in all the big and small things that I do each and every day.
We of course were so exciting about Dustin coming home – especially Makenzie. She was counting down the days until he came home and was telling everyone constantly, “my dad comes home in 2 more days.” She also is a little confused about what he was doing in Guatemala – if you ask, she says, “buying me pink lip gloss!” Of course – everyone knows that is where the best pink lip gloss comes from. Before he came home, Makenzie and I baked him a cake. This is her mixing it up.
When Dustin got home, we had a ton of shopping to do for the house. We were in Home Depot looking at tile for the kitchen – when this lady came up and invited us to make a bird house with Makenzie – so we said okay – little did we know they had a special kids workshop once a month where parents and kids get to build something together for free! It was awesome – and Makenzie has an adorable birdhouse that we are going to paint tomorrow for her new room! Love it!

While Dustin was away in Guatemala, the girls and I went on vacation to my parents lake house with the whole fam! It was so much fun – the girls love everything about the lake – including Nana and Papaw’s boat! We had lots of time to relax, lots of swimming, kayaking (Makenzie too), tubing, golfing, fishing, golf cart riding and running (with mom, dad, Kiki and Macy chasing me on the golf cart).
Here are a few pictures of the girls – thanks mom and dad for such a great time!

I couldn’t find a picture of Makenzie on the boat without snacks in her mouth – but isn’t that what being on the boat is all about – the snacks!
Ha – Finally found one – but I think she was asking for a snack in this one!
I cannot believe we are only about 3 1/2 weeks away from moving! We are more exciting than words can express! Tonight we purchased more paint, our dishwasher and microwave – yesterday was the oven/range – and picked out the tile for all the bathrooms, kitchen and foyer!
Tonight Dustin and I went through cellar and got rid of a bunch of just old stuff that seems to make its way down there – we filled up a giant garbage can and organized it all for the move! Hooray! One more project off the list. I’ve been doing a lot of packing lately – so much that our entire front room is almost full of boxes for a yard sale or for the new house – all specially coded for our super organized move (hopefully).
Here are a few pictures of the inside of the house!
